Dear Friends,

Thank you for your many years as customers of National Art Interiors + Design. We have a long and successful history in this area because of our wonderful clients. We appreciate each and every one of you.

After 10 years of working in the Interior Design industry I have decied to spend more time with my family, and being more involved with my church and in the community. As many of you know, running a small business is all-consuming.

This spring we will be closing the National Art Interiors showroom. All of our clients who have orders placed with us will have those fulfilled just as we have always done. We will accept special orders through March 31, 2010.

Beginning in mid-March and running through mid-June we will have our 90-day Showroom Closing Sale in the Sutton Square Shopping Center on Falls of Neuse Road. Please shop with us during our Showroom Closing Sale and take advantage of the great deals.

Recently here at National Art Interiors + Design, we hosted two special holiday events. The first was for the North Carolina Friends of the Bar Association and the second was for the Olde Raleigh Garden Club. We provided several active holiday stations for the ladies, as well as delicious finger foods and beverages for them to enjoy. Our stations included, a flower arrangement station, gift wrapping and bow making, as well as a table and place setting station. The active stations were quite a hit amongst both groups! The ladies learned all kinds of new ideas and left quite inspired to go home and decorate for the holidays. If you or your friends are interested in having NAID host your next social club event, please feel free to give us a call for more information. The Great Debate: Reupholstering vs. Buying New Furniture

Recently, I have had several clients ask whether it is better to reupholster existing furniture or to buy new. Personally, I think it depends on the quality and condition of the piece, as well as the size, shape and sentimental value. If you are looking to make a change, examine your furniture and determine what is of importance to you. Keep in mind comfort, function and style. This will help you determine what items you want to keep and those you want to alter. Sometimes adding just a few new pieces can completely transform the look of a room. For example, if you have a sofa that is still quite comfortable and you are happy with the style, but your chairs have seen better days, you might want to consider reupholstering your sofa and ordering new chairs. By using fabrics with a fresh color palette and complimentary patterns, you can create a completely new look on existing furniture. If you find yourself wanting to purge everything and start fresh, buying new furniture may be your best solution. Of course price is always a question in this great debate. Depending on the price of fabric, reupholstering can sometimes equal or be greater in cost to a new piece. If you find yourself at these crossroads, evaluate the condition, style and function of the piece. If it does not meet your requirements, then out with the old and in with the new! I hope this helps some of you that might be considering buying new furniture or recovering existing furniture.

New Merchandise on the Way

It has been about a week since Market ended and we will be receiving the new merchandise very soon. Some items have already shipped from the suppliers! Attached are photos of an accessory line with great looking accessories and great prices as well. The small mercury glass lamp will sell for $248.00 <20%…$198.40 and my favorite out of the bunch is the half-crackle glass lamp, it will sell for $298.00 < 20%…238.40. This lamp is made from a glass the color of an old Coke bottle, the bottom half is crackled and it’s topped with a slightly oversized shade. I love the color and style of this lamp! Look in the November – December issue of Veranda for a brief story entitled “Trade Secrets”. The first photo features a caned bed by Somerset Bay. It just so happens that I ordered this very bed in the same Vanilla Bean finish for our showroom. It should arrive sometime around the first of the year. Somerset Bay is a spinoff of what used to be Yorkshire House, a North Carolina owned company with wonderful finishes and gorgeous pieces all made to order. Should you decide to place an order for a Somerset Bay item please allow several weeks for delivery. All the pieces are made to order, just for you and does take a little longer than other manufacturers but well worth the wait. Other items arriving will be, a new rug company that offers inexpensive indoor/outdoor area rugs as well as wool and silk rugs for the interior, we also have some new artwork on the way. Color Trends: Grounding Yellow with Grey

As we all know, fashion has a direct influence on the colors used in interiors. In the past few years we have seen a variety of new color combinations surface such as blue and brown, purple and grey, and yellow and grey. We first saw these combinations being used in the fashion industry, but we have begun to see them more and more in the interior design field. The color grey has become the new neutral. Grey provides a beautiful backdrop for colors to pop. Recently while at market, the combination of yellow and grey was used in several different showrooms. As seen below, the Baker showroom uses different hues of grey to create a soothing color palette. The yellow accents scattered around the room provide a pop of color and visual interest. There are many different shades of yellow, so be careful when selecting your tone. Southern Accents magazine featured the article, “Color Essentials: Decorating With Yellow,” which discusses the many different uses of the color. The bedroom pictured below demonstrates yellow can be used in small amounts, but makes a large impact on the design. The designer of this room has created a calming, yet cheerful environment. If you are looking for some inspiration for your home, consider adding pops of color to switch up your color palette.
